This scam seems to have some or all of the following characteristics:

Originates from a free email service (yahoo, hotmail, etc)
-
Stilted English (like the African "transfer millions of dollars" scam)
-
Originator has a respectable title, like Dr., Rev., etc.
-
Looking to book accommodation for engineers, doctors or pastors / missionaries
-
I wish to make downpayment with my Visa Card
Note that a free email service will often put a little ad at the bottom of the email. Click here for an email that illustrates this.
If you are feeling frisky and want to play these people and scam them back, give them the phone number of your local RCMP detachment. Maybe they will call. Or direct them to the contact info on http://www.phonebusters.com
